Some common technical support questions:

1. When trying to make changes or delete text, symbols, or polygons, I get a red box around it but cannot do anything else.

You have done more than one “Save Map As”.In order to edit the map, you had to go to “File” then “Save Map As”. By creating a new saved map, you are actually creating a link to the original map. The original map will maintain its integrity, and the saved map gives you the power to create and edit. If you select “Save Map As” when saving a saved map, any changes made to the first saved map will override the changes on the second saved map. In addition, you will not be allowed to make edits to any component of the first saved map.

To make changes to a layer that is associated with a different saved map, look at the path in the “Map File” column. This is where the map that you wish to edit is located. Open that map in PhotoMapper and make the necessary changes then hit “Save”.

To avoid this problem in the future, always hit “Save” after making edits in your first saved map.

2. When installing PhotoMapper License Manager, where should I create the
pmlicmgr.plm file?

The pmlicmgr.plm license manager file will need to be installed in a shared
directory with read/write permissions at both folder and file level.

3. I want to export the imagery as a tif, jpg, bmp or pdf. How do I do that?

TIF, JPG or BMP

In order to save an area of the image as a tif, jpg or bmp, one can use the Export Imagery Mode tool, which is the button of a black “X” located on the toolbar. To use this tool, select the button from the toolbar and then left click on the top left corner of the area you would like to export, then drag the rectangle to the bottom right corner and left click again. A dialog box will appear prompting the user to name the image file, choose the type of file to be exported (tif, jpg or bmp) and specify a location for the export. The preferences/parameters for the export can be altered by going to the FILE menu, then PREFERENCES and choose the EXPORT tab. Here the user can choose to export by maximum file size, scale or page size. Other options include changing the export projection or including all graphics to be exported along with the imagery.

PDF

In order to create a pdf, opposed to a tif, jpg or bmp, the user can print to a pdf within the print options. To do this, the user needs the appropriate Adobe software, which will then give the user the option to print to the Adobe Distiller within the print options, rather than printing directly to a printer/plotter. The image will be processed through the Adobe Distiller, which will create a pdf.

4. In ArcGIS 9, my imagery disappears after zooming to a certain scale.

This is a known issue that involves the projection engine and memory caching in the ArcGIS 9 software. AirPhotoUSA and ESRI are working closely to resolve this issue. Meanwhile, there are a few things you can try that may fix the problem.

  • Add the imagery before you add any vector data.
  • Set the projection to match that of the imagery before adding.
  • Close all other applications leaving only ArcGIS 9 open.

While these “work arounds” have worked for many of our customers, they may not work all the time due to the inconsistency of the error. If you have any additional “work arounds” or any comments concerning this issue, please feel free to call our Technical Support Team.
